A series from the book of Isaiah: Chapter 52

Have you ever been promised something that you become so excited about?

This had been the feeling of the people of God described in Isaiah chapter 52. The exile is about to end and while they wait for their redemption or what we commonly understand as their deliverance from the exile they are asked by God to celebrate their coming freedom and redemption. This is called redemption because freedom can never be accomplished by their own works. It is only the works of God that can set them free from the oppressive power of Babylon.

52 1Awake, awake, Zion,

clothe yourself with strength!

Put on your garments of splendor,

Jerusalem, the holy city.

The uncircumcised and defiled

will not enter you again.

2 Shake off your dust;

rise up, sit enthroned, Jerusalem.

Free yourself from the chains on your neck,

Daughter Zion, now a captive.

The deeper meaning of this redemption story is it is a prefigure of the work of Christ for His people here in this fallen earth oppressed and abused by sin. That redemption is never paid with any silver or gold just like how the old Israel has been set free. Our freedom from the dominion of sin is free of charge. God has promised renewal of heart and transformation inside out as they choose to believe in His redeeming love.

This is a lasting promise to all that Satan would never have a lasting claim on God’s people. God’s people will be redeemed by God. For all the people of God waiting for this event are like those people in the exile excited for our final deliverance and for those people who proclaim this great news they are likened to be those people who have experienced Christ and will be proclaiming the good news of deliverance. The people who are eagerly waiting for the great news of deliverance and final will say that the feet of those who bring good news will be deeply appreciated and be called beautiful. Not because they are beautiful but the feeling is that beautiful that the news is finally received.

How beautiful on the mountains

are the feet of those who bring good news,

who proclaim peace,

who bring good tidings,

who proclaim salvation,

who say to Zion,

“Your God reigns!”

Many people exhorted this as an example for people who proclaim the good news of salvation but honestly what makes it beautiful is the NEWS THAT THE MESSENGER BRINGS. IT IS THE NEWS THAT IS BEAUTIFUL, friends.

There is no other news that will ever be spoken than that news that our Christ is coming near. The news that He is in the clouds to take His people back again into His arms and it is only and only Him will reign and evil will never take its toll on us. CHRIST’S COMING IS THE GREATEST NEWS EVER TOLD.

Friends, sin will never reign forever.

Sin has its ending and this chapter proclaims the

assurance that indeed our salvation is coming,

our redemption is drawing near.

Jesus is our greatest news!
