John 10:11 "I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
In the worldly sense, it may seem unthinkable that a shepherd would lay down his life for his sheep.
Our God presents himself to us in a way that is the opposite of the world's norms and values.
He does not wield power in any way because He is God, but takes the form of a servant and does everything in His power for our best.
He does not see us as mere creatures, but as precious and valuable beings whom he protects, guides, helps, nurtures, encourages, and heals.
And God takes our place with his life.
The sheep know the Shepherd's voice.
The sheep know how much the Shepherd does for them.
And the sheep will gladly follow the Shepherd wherever he goes.
Do we know Jesus, our Shepherd, as well as these sheep?
Sheep are easily led astray, but they always listen to their Shepherd's voice and try to follow him.
God knows that we, like sheep, are easily lost, short-sighted, and in constant need of a guide.
So rather than lamenting our habits, it is important that we seek God, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to know fully how much Jesus the Shepherd has done for us, so that we can hear his voice and follow it.
Our God is a God who gives when we ask, so by asking boldly and without reservation, we will be led back to the experience of knowing God more.
